# getGenesisHash

> Returns the genesis hash that identifies which cluster the node belongs to.

Source: https://docs.constant-k.com/rpc/http/getgenesishash/

`getGenesisHash` returns the genesis hash of the cluster the node runs against, fixed for the cluster's lifetime.

It confirms whether a node is on mainnet-beta rather than devnet, testnet or a local/forked validator; client code typically checks it once at startup and caches it.

- Transport: HTTP, JSON-RPC 2.0 `POST` to `https://rpc-newyork.constant-k.com/?api-key=YOUR_API_KEY` (New York) or `https://rpc-frankfurt.constant-k.com/?api-key=YOUR_API_KEY` (Frankfurt) or `https://rpc-amsterdam.constant-k.com/?api-key=YOUR_API_KEY` (Amsterdam). The key also works as an `x-api-key` header.

## Parameters

None.

## Result

- `result` (string, optional): The base-58 encoded genesis hash of the cluster.

## Example: Get mainnet-beta genesis hash

Request:

```bash
curl "https://rpc-newyork.constant-k.com/?api-key=YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -X POST \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "jsonrpc": "2.0", "id": 1, "method": "getGenesisHash" }'
```

Response:

```json
{
  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "result": "5eykt4UsFv8P8NJdTREpY1vzqKqZKvdpKuc147dw2N9d",
  "id": 1
}
```

## Notes

- Every constant-k mainnet-beta endpoint returns `5eykt4UsFv8P8NJdTREpY1vzqKqZKvdpKuc147dw2N9d`; a different value indicates a cluster other than mainnet-beta.
