# getInflationRate

> Returns the specific inflation rate values in effect for the current epoch.

Source: https://docs.constant-k.com/rpc/http/getinflationrate/

`getInflationRate` returns the actual inflation numbers for the current epoch: the total annual rate, the portion paid to validators, and the portion directed to the foundation. Unlike `getInflationGovernor`, these move a little every epoch as the schedule tapers.

Expected staking yield and current network inflation figures use this call rather than modeling the long-run schedule.

- Transport: HTTP, JSON-RPC 2.0 `POST` to `https://rpc-newyork.constant-k.com/?api-key=YOUR_API_KEY` (New York) or `https://rpc-frankfurt.constant-k.com/?api-key=YOUR_API_KEY` (Frankfurt) or `https://rpc-amsterdam.constant-k.com/?api-key=YOUR_API_KEY` (Amsterdam). The key also works as an `x-api-key` header.

## Parameters

None.

## Result

- `result` (object, optional): Inflation values for the current epoch, expressed as annual rates (0.036 = 3.6%).
  - `total` (number, required): Total annual inflation rate for the current epoch.
  - `validator` (number, required): Portion of total inflation distributed to validators/stakers for the current epoch.
  - `foundation` (number, required): Portion of total inflation directed to the foundation for the current epoch.
  - `epoch` (integer, required): Epoch these rates apply to.

## Example: Get current inflation rate

Request:

```bash
curl "https://rpc-newyork.constant-k.com/?api-key=YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -X POST \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "jsonrpc": "2.0", "id": 1, "method": "getInflationRate" }'
```

Response:

```json
{
  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "result": {
    "epoch": 1036,
    "foundation": 0,
    "total": 0.03644406556200367,
    "validator": 0.03644406556200367
  },
  "id": 1
}
```

## Notes

- `total` equals `validator` plus `foundation`; since mainnet-beta's foundation rate is 0, the two numbers are currently identical.
