# getMaxRetransmitSlot

> Returns the highest slot the node has seen and retransmitted shreds for.

`getMaxRetransmitSlot` returns the highest slot for which the node has retransmitted shreds onward through Turbine. It sits ahead of `getSlot`, since a node can retransmit a slot's shreds before that block is fully replayed.

`getSlot` reports general chain position; this call is for diagnosing shred propagation health on a specific node.

The key also works as an `x-api-key` header.
